Survey Proves 7 Indonesian Ministers as 'Unpopular' to Public

Their lack of exposure to the public makes their progress and accomplishment as ministers as largely unrecognised to the population.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Recent reports suggest the possibility of Cabinet reshuffling initiated by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and his Vice Jusuf Kalla.

Such possibility rooted from the fact that some ministers in the working cabinet reportedly incompetent in successfully carrying out the task or programs of the government.

Political Communication Institute (Polcomm Institute) shares, how there are several ministers whose capabilities or drawbacks are not known to public or possibly overlooked.

Polcomm Institute recorded a list of as many as 7 ministers whose accomplishment or work in the past 6 months, are not shown or promoted by the media and not known by the population in general.

Their level of prominence positioned at 0,1%, a slightly lower percentage to Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel which earned itself a 0,2% popularity rate.

They include, the Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman, Industrial Minister Saleh Husin, Minister of health Nila F Moeloek, Minister of Research and Higher Education M Natsir, Minister of Women and Children Protection Yohana Yambise and the Minister of Union Work and Small to Medium Businesses Ngurah Puspayoga.

The survey was done using the research method and news data collection technique, which involve the thorough and meticulous observation of as many as 32.047 news articles from 15 differing national media.

The method for research content analysis as well as discourse analysis was used to study the content of news articles published in October 2014 through to April 2015. As for research number 1, the period of time was extended to 7 May 2015.

The Executive Director of Polcomm Institute, Heri Burdianto explains how the success of government in attaining their goals depends and determined by the competencies of its ministers in fulfilling the decided programs.

Some ministers proactively communicated their intention and show their accomplishment through the media, some of them are evidently less active in promoting their role.

According to him, the 7 aforementioned ministers are lacking in public exposure which caused them to be largely unpopular and their accomplishments to be widely unrecognized. (Akp/Tnt)
