Police Confiscates Preschool Books Containing 'Radicals' Content

Book distribution facility in Makassar was raided on Tuesday following reports of radicals materials in preschool books.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta A major raid was done by Mobile Brigade anti-Terror division of Northwest Sulawesi police department in a book distribution facility at Jalan Abdullah Daeng Sirua in Makassar. The raid was done following raised suspicion over the likeliness of books distributed for kindergarten/preschool containing materials that are ‘radicals’ in point of view.

Northwest Sulawesi police spokesperson Frans Barung Mangera informs that the raid was done on Tuesday 26 January 2016 at 16.00 local time. A number of books have been confiscated for future investigation about the raised case.

“We have secured a number of books for us to probe on in more detailed manner. The raid is done on books which have been distributed by Cordova Agency,” Barung told Liputan6.com.

Anti- terror team took the time to interrogate bookshop owner Arif and one of his staffs Iwan amid raid.

“Interrogation was done following reports of the books distributed by the Cordova Agency which allegedly contain radicalized materials for preschool students,” Barung further explained.

According to Barung, the interrogation led to the unraveling of name of other places where the books supposedly distributed as well. It has been learned that a book distribution facility at Jalan Laiya not far from Makassar central market also holds a large supply of those ‘controversially radical’ books.

The preschool book entitling ‘ANAK ISLAM SUKA MEMBACA’ has been taken for further investigation by the district court of Makassar since Monday 25 January 2016.
