President Jokowi’s Take on Hotly-Discussed ‘Tapping’ Speculation

Australian and New Zealand intelligence have been accused of tapping Indonesian politicians using the biggest cellular network in Indonesia.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The former member of National Security Agency (NSA), Edward Joseph Snowden has been widely known as the person behind all leaked confidential information of the worldwide intelligence. Found his save haven in Russia, this man has just recently revealed information regarding the possibility of both Australian and New Zealand intelligence, tapping a number of Indonesian statesmen using the biggest cellular network in Indonesia, Telkomsel.

As soon as President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo heard about this news, his response is considered to be a cavalier one.

“What are they trying to tap? When? While I was visiting rubber or pines garden? This information comes as odd for me,” Jokowi answered jokingly moments before his departure to Aceh at the Halim Perdanakusuma airbase, East Jakarta, Sunday (08/03/2015).

President Jokowi attempted to get things straight in responding the emerging speculations about him and other politicians who are being ‘tapped’ by the intelligence of the friendly neighbours.

“I don’t think so. I never heard of it. I don’t feel like I’m being tapped,” Jokowi explained.

The Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN) is currently examining the recently received information regarding the possibility of both Australia and New Zealand allegedly tapping a number of conversation data from Indonesian statesmen. The alleged Australian and New Zealand spies reportedly exploited the Indonesian cellular network ‘Telkomsel’ to claim the conversation data of these politicians.

The information was taken from the confidential documents belonging to the former member of the United State’s National Security Agency (NSA), Edward Joseph Snowden. He has been widely known to be the man behind many of the revealed confidential information of the U.S government.

"We are now examining the reports collected," the Chairman of Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN), Marciano Norman informed at the Presidential Palace, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta, Thursday (05/03/2015).

Marciano admitted that the government has already acknowledged this information and thus now focuses on securing the Indonesian cellular network whilst investigating the case as to find out whether or not the tapping is true. (Akp/Ein)
