RI President Jokowi to Spend New Years at Raja Ampat Island

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesian President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and his wife Iriana Jokowi have been planning to spend their new years eve in Raja Ampat, West Papua. The Deputy of Indonesian Police Force Budi Gunawan confirms that security will be tightened around the area where President Jokowi and his wife together with family members will be spending.

“We have doubled our forces there and stationed sufficient amount of men in four differing locations. We have also discuss anticipation strategies for unwanted events that may occur,” Budi said on Monday 28 December 2015.

Apart from that, Budi also shares the fact that his team will also extend its security measures in susceptible areas including: Puncak Jaya, South Sorong, Merauke, Wamena and the greater area of Raja Ampat.

“Our forces have been assigned to secure those locations and additional forces have also been deployed as President Jokowi requested to areas prone to conflict due to recent regional election,” he added.

Papua region has now become one of the main areas that receives greater attention following recent incident involving the murder of three police officers by a group of armed men in the area of Sinak Papua.

Due to such grave danger, escalation of security forces is deemed important to assure the safety of President Jokowi and his family’s stay in Papua as they welcome a brand new year.
